Reformation Celebration

The Ceylon Evangelical Lutheran Church celebrated the 500 year anniversary of the Reformation with 500 attending a combined worship service and educational presentations at Smyrna Fellowship in Nuwara Eliya, on November 3.

The occasion also symbolized a renewal of Reformation hymns in the CELC, as vicars and choir members led the congregation in singing hymns that Rev. Dr. Karsten had taught during his visit earlier in August. Thanks to the teaching of Dr. Karsten, and the hard work of the musicians, everyone present enjoyed a special musical event.

Missionary wives Monica Naumann and Martha Mahlburg, together with some of the Mahlburg family daughters played musical instruments to accompany the singing, and looked very beautiful wearing saris for the occasion.

Musicians
Wives and daughters of missionaries accompanied the singing.

The service was followed by educational talks given by the pastors and missionaries.

We give thanks to God alone for the Reformation of the 16th century, which reminds us every year of the grace that is ours in Jesus Christ, in whom we believe according to the doctrine founded on holy Scripture alone.

Sola Fide. Sola Gratia. Sola Scriptura.
