The Ceylon Evangelical Lutheran Church promotes and encourages the Christian education at all stages for a top priority, from pre-school to seminary, as well as ongoing education for pastors, evangelists, and congregations through Bible studies and ongoing seminars.
Pre-School Projects
CELC supports preschools to enhance literacy among the youngest children, with Christian teachers in a Christian setting, also using Bible stories to teach little children about the love of Jesus from a young age.
Sunday School
Every CELC congregation and mission station promotes education on Sunday mornings, particularly for children but also adults to learn Bible stories and Luther’s Small Catechism. Singing and music is also important in all the congregations. Every year we are learning new Lutheran songs and hymns.
School Scholarships
Through financial assistance from kind donors CELC shows the love of Jesus by helping children, providing educational opportunities to boys and girls from poor areas, to help advance earning potential and social mobility.
Pre-Seminary, Seminary, and Evangelism Classes
Sri Lanka Lutheran Church never had a formal permanent seminary, but we like to have one in this country, God willing. Currently, we provide theological education through the pastors, resident missionary, and international resources through partner churches. Still we are waiting to see if a permanent seminary in Sri Lanka will be possible.
There is a Pre-Seminary facility in Colombo. The purpose of the pre-seminary is to prepare students to apply to a suitable Lutheran seminary, through training in English language and beginning theology classes.
Evangelism classes are taught on an ongoing basis for evangelists to learn more Bible and Lutheran theology.
